Expression of Interest

Thank-you for your interest in the Young Reporters for the Environment Litter Less competition (YRE), a joint initiative of the Mars Wrigley Foundation and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

The competition engages and educates 11-25-year-old students on the issue of litter and waste and encourages them to make positive choices.

To help you get started we are offering 10 Aussie schools seed grants of $250 to reduce litter and affect positive behaviour change in your school.

How Does it Work?

  • Students pick an environmental topic relating to litter, investigate it, and then report on it using one of three categories:  Writing, Photography or Film
  • Students create a plan for a media campaign which will highlight the issue of litter and waste through different media channels.
  • Students organise a ‘Community Action Day’ where they raise awareness of an environmental litter issue to the whole school and/or wider community
  • Students submit their work to to enter the National YRE competition.
  • Australian winners for each category may be eligible to compete in the International YRE competition.

If your school is selected to participate in YRE 2021, you agree to:

  • Learn about YRE through the educational resources that you will receive
  • Use three of the eleven Lesson Plans created for Teachers
  • Create a plan for a media campaign
  • Organise a Community Action Day event promoting your YRE project
  • Complete a final report
